Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will assign $1.3 million on infrastructure improvement in Marathon Key

In the end of last week, Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida announced that $1.3 million from the Job Growth Grant Fund will be assigned to the city of Marathon to improve infrastructure at the intersection of US-1 highway and Banana Boulevard.

This will make it possible to expand the motorway, add a turn land, and install utility infrastructure, including new sewage lines and treatment facilities, thus increasing the overall throughput capacity of the wastewater treatment system. This will enable large companies to build new properties and create new jobs and tourism opportunities in Marathon.

After the Governor’s speech, Johnny Morris, Founder and CEO at Bass Pro Shops, announced the plans of building the city’s first fishing-oriented resort for fishing fans from all over the world.

Since August 2021, more than $111 million has already been assigned from the Job Growth Grant Fund for further development of Florida’s economy by building sustainable and resilient infrastructure and training human resources. The new project is supposed to create 500 jobs, support the business growth, ensure construction of housing for workers, and incentivize economic development in Marathon.
