Last week, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Cabinet invested over $56 million to purchase seven properties across the state that are subject to conservation. These seven land plots with a combined area of almost 20,000 acres are crucial for wildlife habitat. 98% of this area is part of the Wildlife Corridor.
“Purchasing lands for the sake of environmental protection is a top priority for my administration,” Governor DeSantis said. “Conservation of these essential lands will benefit water quality, rare wildlife habitats, and the wildlife corridors. It will also support the continually growing Florida economy.”
“We are thankful to Governor DeSantis and the Cabinet for this investment,” says Shawn Hamilton, Secretary at the Department of Environmental Protection. “These projects will protect the endangered species, connect the wildlife corridors, and help to preserve Florida’s natural landscapes for future generations. We also appreciate our numerous partners that made these projects possible.”
