Miami is recognized among the best in the national ranking, taking 7th place in the survey of the 200 best cities in the United States for urban landscaping. In Miami, little-used areas, such as vacant lots, are being successfully planted, turning them into fruitful territories where people can grow various edible crops.
The rating was based on four indicators most important for urban gardening: access to public gardens, access to gardening supplies, climate and support, which includes local gardening clubs and "right to garden" laws.
Miami is also known for having the highest number of gardening supplies stores per square mile among all the cities that participated in the study. Other cities in TOP-10 include New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Austin, Texas, Tampa, Pasadena, Orlando.
